Ground Zero Mosque

We have intentionally kept away from the issue of the proposed ground zero mosque because it was clear that the majority of people in the United States opposed it and that made our opinion redundant. But Mr. Obama has persisted in trying to make this a religious freedom issue and it seems that someone needs to give a valid argument on the other side.
Obama and his left wing supporters insist that the imam should build the proposed Cordoba mosque because they have a constitutional right to do so. That is the whole of their argument. But that line of thinking flees in the face of logical thinking. It is ludicrous to propose that a person or entity should do absolutely anything which the constitution permits. For instance, I would be on absolutely solid constitutional ground if I were to haul a truck load of copies of the Koran to the city dump and invite all the muslims in my town to watch as I burned them. But that would be neither rational nor advisable. It would be extremely offensive.
Now let us consider what this imam is proposing. He wants to build a mosque at the very site where muslims attacked the United States of America. (PC note here: I recognize that not all muslims participated or agreed with said attack, just like not all Christians participated in the crusades.) Merely the fact that he wants to build a mosque in that location is offensive, but it is not the bulk of our personal objection.
It is crucial to think about what he wants to name the aforementioned mosque. Cordoba is not an english word, nor is it arabic. In fact it is the name of a city in Spain. A quick google-ing brings up this site from which we learn that Cordoba, Spain was the scene of the “great islamic victory” over Christian Europe in A.D. 711. We further learn that, “When the Umayyad Caliphs were deposed in Damascus in 750, the dynasty relocated to Córdoba, ruling an emirate there until 929″.
Armed with this knowledge, the name and intended symbolism of the site becomes abundantly clear. It is not a humble mosque designed to build bridges. It is intended to be a shrine dedicated to the memory of “the great islamic victory over the great satan”, America.
Imagine, if you will, that the Japanese bought up some land around Pearl Harbor and wanted to place a huge replica of a World War II Japanese bomber there complete with a placard proclaiming how they had kicked our butts royally on December 7, 1941. Imagine our national outrage over that. It would probably have us on the brink of war all over again. So it is not at all unreasonable to think that this mosque should provoke the same sense of outrage to all Americans.
Let us add to that the fact that this imam has refused to denounce terrorist groups or terrorism in general. And then there is the fact that he is raising money for the mosque in radical muslim countries. It becomes a very real possibility that this mosque, with its militant name, would become a recruiting ground for American muslim terrorists or maybe a planning/organizing spot for terrorist activities. But that is all speculation.
What is extremely obvious, Mr. Obama, is that this mosque is more than offensive. It is an outrage and so is your support for it. The issue is not one of religious liberty. . .it is one of common decency.

It’s an aberration that the President of the United States endorses a mosque so close to the biggest and most atrocious terrorist act in the history of the World! It’a spit in the face of the people that died there in horror; their families, and the rest of us Americans. It is unacceptable! We should wait until the mosque is finished, and then blow it up while all the Muslims are in there praying!!! See how they feel about that
